HeadLines Decoded is a lean, independent newsroom. This page lists the people responsible for its journalism and standards, and explains how that responsibility works. As the newsroom grows, this page grows with it.

Leadership

Todd Ruffner-Schoenfeld, Founder and Editor-in-Chief. Todd sets the editorial direction, chooses what we cover, and holds final responsibility for accuracy, fairness, and standards across everything we publish.

How the newsroom works

Today, HeadLines Decoded is a one-person newsroom. Our founder reports, writes, and edits every story published here, under the standards set out on this site. We are honest about that rather than dressing it up as a bigger operation than it is. We also do not intend to stay a newsroom of one: our plan is to partner with university journalism programs so students can earn published bylines here, working to our editorial standards and under editorial supervision. As real contributors join, their names will appear on this page. Whoever writes a piece, a person checks it and stands behind it before it goes live.

A byline is our unit of accountability. When a story carries a name, that person reported or shaped it, verified it to the best of their ability, and is the one who owns any correction. Where a piece reflects the newsroom as a whole rather than a single reporter, it runs under the HeadLines Decoded name, and the Editor-in-Chief stands behind it.
