Why this page exists. Most newsrooms keep a set of standards. Very few will show it to you. We would rather be clear and right than first and loud, and we would rather you be able to check us than take our word for it.
What we promise you
We decode. We don’t sensationalize.
Our job is to make a complicated story clear, not to make a simple story scary.
We show you the facts and let you decide.
We lay out what happened and what it means, and we trust you to draw your own conclusion.
We go to the primary source.
We read the actual filing, report, or transcript, not just what other outlets said about it.
Every article cites its sources.
Linked where we can, with what is confirmed, estimated, or still uncertain said plainly.
Our images are honest.
Every photograph is real. Illustrations are labelled as illustrations. We will never show you an invented image and let you believe it is a real moment.
We cook every recipe before we publish it.
Made in a real kitchen, exactly as written. The photographs are of the dish we actually made.
We credit who got there first.
When another newsroom breaks a story, we say so and we link to them.
We correct our mistakes in the open.
Fixed, dated, and we say what changed. No quiet deletions.
We tell you when we have a stake.
Sponsorship or any interest is disclosed where you can see it, and sponsored content is always marked and never dressed up as reporting.
We write for everyone, not for experts.
If we use a hard idea, we explain it. Clarity is the whole point.

The mark at the foot of every article
You may notice a small stamp at the bottom of each piece. It is our way of putting these standards on the record: it says the article was produced to the standards described here, and it points back to this page so you can check what that means. A publication willing to write its standards down, in public, is a publication you can hold to them. That is the entire point.
These standards are living
This is version 1.1, reviewed in July 2026. As we learn, we revise. When we do, we note it here, so what you are reading is always current and always dated.
