D23 2026 Brings Back Mousequerade and a Weekend of Cosplay at the Grand Plaza
From the Premiere Stage runway to daily meet-ups at the Grand Plaza Fountain, Disney's biggest costume celebration returns to Anaheim August 14 to 16.

D23 2026, The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, opens its doors in Anaheim from August 14 through 16. Among the weekend’s most beloved traditions is Mousequerade, the costume contest that turns months of quiet stitching and gluing into one loud, joyful moment on stage. Fans who have spent the spring building their creations finally get their turn under the lights.
A Runway Built for Disney Dreamers
D23 Mousequerade, The Ultimate Disney Costume Contest presented by AT&T, takes the Premiere Stage on Saturday, August 15, from 10:00 to 11:30 in the morning. Entries opened back in March and closed in late April, giving costume makers months to perfect every seam. Finalists learned they had made the show in mid May, then spent the summer getting ready for Anaheim.
The contest welcomes two kinds of entries. Single category costumes celebrate one Disney character brought to life by one creator. Group category costumes let a team of fans build an entire scene together, matching colors and details across every member of the crew.
Every costume has to be an original, handmade design built around Disney owned characters and stories. Store bought wigs, footwear, or small finishing accessories are allowed, but the heart of each build has to come from the maker’s own hands. Fans are even encouraged to bring in technology and 3D printing to push their designs further.
Host Nina West will keep the show moving on the Premiere Stage. She is joined at the judges’ table by Yvette Nicole Brown and Ashley Eckstein, along with Bobby Kim, who will watch each walk and weigh in on the craft behind it.
Judging leans on the moment fans love most, the walk itself. On stage presentation counts for a quarter of the finalist score. Craftsmanship, originality, color and materials, storytelling execution, and creative use of Disney each make up smaller but still meaningful shares of the total.
Twenty single entries and ten group entries made the cut as finalists this year. Each finalist receives event tickets for the trip, and one approved handler can join a costume backstage when the build calls for extra hands.
Prize money follows the excitement. Each category crowns a first place winner who takes home $2,300. Second place in the single category earns $500. An audience choice award adds another $500, and an Innovation and Technology prize does the same, honoring fans who bring inventive lighting or printing into their builds.
The Winners Take Their Bow
After the runway lights dim on the Premiere Stage, the celebration continues just down the way. Winners of D23 Mousequerade with AT&T takes the Spotlight Stage that same Saturday afternoon, from 1:00 to 1:30, giving the crowd a second chance to cheer for the costumes that stole the show.
Cosplay Fills the Grand Plaza All Weekend
Mousequerade may be the headline event, but cosplay at D23 2026 does not stop at the runway. Cosplay meet-ups return to the Grand Plaza Fountain across all three days of the event, and every attendee is welcome to join, whether they arrive in costume or simply want to admire the craftsmanship up close.
Friday, August 14 opens the weekend with a Star Wars gathering at 9:45 in the morning. Pixar fans get their turn at 11:00. A Marvel meet-up follows at 12:15 in the afternoon, and the day wraps with an All the Worlds of Disney gathering at 2:15.
Saturday, August 15 shifts the spotlight to Disney Princesses, Heroes, and Villains at noon, timed perfectly for anyone still glowing from the morning’s Mousequerade runway. The afternoon brings a Disney Parks and Games meet-up at 2:15.
Sunday, August 16 closes the event with one more All the Worlds of Disney gathering at 11:15 in the morning, a last chance for fans to compare costumes and swap stories before D23 2026 wraps for the year.

Between the Premiere Stage runway and the daily gatherings at the Grand Plaza Fountain, D23 2026 gives Disney’s most dedicated costume makers a stage of their own.
