Disney’s Newest Park After Dark, and the Next One Coming

Walk with us to the edge of the lake one last time. We have done this together across three continents and seven parks now, and here we are, the final night, waiting for the water to do something no water has done at a Disney park before.

Adventure Bay goes still. The crowd hushes without being asked to. And then the drones lift, hundreds of them, climbing straight up off the surface of the lake. It hits you somewhere behind the ribs before you can pin it down. Then the anthem swells and pins it for you. It is heroes.

Here is the honest part, the thing worth knowing before you build an evening around this park. In daylight, this park is a story about becoming. It opened in its new form on March 29, 2026, reimagined and renamed from the old Walt Disney Studios Park, and by afternoon you can feel it still stretching into the new name, still learning to wear it. The World of Frozen land is a real gift, Arendelle rendered so lovingly you half expect the fjord to fog your breath. But the park in the sun is a park introducing itself.

The park at night is a park that knows exactly who it is.

Disney Cascade of Lights is staged right there on Adventure Bay, the central lake, and it uses the water as a character rather than a backdrop. In all, 379 drones take part, and for the first time anywhere, 100 of them are aquatic drones that operate on and from the surface itself. Mobile fountains chase the beat. Water screens catch projections that would drift into nothing without them. Flames throw heat you can feel on your face across the water, pyrotechnics punch the dark, and all of it is scored to an original anthem called We Can Be Heroes.

That title is doing more work than a title usually does. Because the show is not really about drones or fountains. It is about the small brave thing the whole park has been asking of you all day, the invitation to picture yourself as the one who steps forward. In the sunlight that invitation is a suggestion. On the lake at night, with the anthem climbing and the water lifting into the sky, it is a promise. Stay. This is the park finally saying out loud what it spent all day only hinting at.

What to Watch

And now the honest anticipation, because we would be lying to you if we pretended to know what we do not.

Disneyland Abu Dhabi was announced on May 7, 2025, by The Walt Disney Company and Miral, who will fund, build, own, and operate it while Disney Imagineering leads the creative. It will sit on Yas Island. That is close to the sum of what is settled. The park is still in design, not under construction, with no opening date and no nighttime entertainment announced. We cannot review a show that does not exist yet, and we will not.

What we can tell you is the one detail that has kept us up at night in the best way. This will be Disney’s first modern castle to incorporate water. It rises from the sand on the waterfront, and that is the whole confirmed picture, so that is where our imagining has to stop. We will not tell you it spirals or gleams or does anything Disney has not shown us. But a castle that meets the sea, on a park designed on a coast, by the company that has spent a century learning what darkness and reflection can do together. You can see why we cannot look away. When they finally light it, we want to be standing there.

The Bottom Line

So here is where the whole series lands. We went looking for a simple answer to a simple question. Is a castle park worth it for just a few hours after dark? Park after park, the answer came back the same, and it never once wavered. Anaheim, Orlando, Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and now this newest one on a French lake. Every single castle park has found its strongest, most honest self once the sun goes down.

And here is what we think we were really chasing all along, past the parades and the drone counts. Each of these parks carries a character all its own. You feel it the moment you are surrounded by it, this thing that is almost impossible to put cleanly into words: the local culture’s own spirit and Walt’s spirit, alive in the same place at the same time, because his lives on in everything Disney. The dark is simply when that feeling turns up to full. It is the thing that keeps bringing people back, one park and one night at a time. Abu Dhabi will have its own, Emirati and Walt’s together, and we already know we will feel it the first night they light that castle over the water.

The formula has not failed yet. Not once in seven tries. And everything we know about the castle rising from the sand in Abu Dhabi tells us it will not fail there either, whenever that night finally comes.

So yes. If you can only steal a few hours, steal the dark ones. Walk in as the light goes gold, find your spot by the water, and let the park show you the thing it saves for the people who stay. We have loved doing this with you. And we cannot wait to stand with you at the next lake, in the last gold hour of the day, for the part of the trip you carry home.
