Test Track Is Back: Inside EPCOT’s Reimagined Ride
EPCOT's reimagined Test Track reopened in July 2025. Here is what changed and how the new version came together.

On July 22, 2025, EPCOT’s Test Track opened its doors again and the cars rolled back onto the loop. The ride had been dark for more than a year. It returned at 65 miles an hour, still the fastest anything moves at Walt Disney World.
Disney shared the reimagined Test Track on its D23 slate in August 2024 with a target of 2025. The attraction soft-launched to the public on July 20 and held its official reopening two days later, giving fans who follow theme park news a specific year to circle and a return to look forward to.
A ride about optimism, again
What guests get now leans hard into where the ride came from. The 2025 version pulls its spirit from World of Motion, the sunny 1982 attraction that once stood on this spot and believed, with its whole heart, that the automobile was going to make life freer and better. That optimism is the whole point. World of Motion logos turn up throughout the queue, and one scene borrows the line “it’s always fun to be free,” an echo of the old attraction’s theme song. It is a warmer, brighter read on the car and the future, following the cool blue design-studio version that Disney installed here in 2012 and has now replaced.
The bones underneath are the same ones that have carried riders for years. The outdoor high-speed loop has run unchanged since the ride first opened in 1999, and when Disney overhauled Test Track in 2012 it left the track alone and rebuilt everything around it. The 2025 reimagining follows the same approach: new story, new look, same proven course.
Inside, the redo is real work. There is an all-new musical score. New scenes show how cars now see the road, one of them using more than 29,000 points of light to picture a vehicle’s sensors and cameras. There is a garage of the future for designing your own car, a drive through a forest, a futuristic dome, and at the end a General Motors showroom with real vehicles to climb into before you leave.
The sponsor branding evolved along the way. When Disney announced the ride in 2024, it was “presented by Chevrolet.” By December the branding had reverted to the broader General Motors banner, which is the name it wears today.
How it fits the bigger picture
Test Track was targeted for 2025 and reopened in 2025. There is more on the horizon for the resort too. Tropical Americas, the Encanto and Indiana Jones land replacing DinoLand at Animal Kingdom, is set for 2027. Many other projects Disney has teased lately arrived with applause and concept art and no date attached yet, which makes a dated, now-open attraction like Test Track an especially exciting one to enjoy right now.
